You do not necessarily need a loan to establish credit.
I started out by getting credit cards.
The trick to establishing good credit is to pay them in full each month, since carrying a balance reduces your rating.

Discover
If you can’t get these try:
Target
Kmart - yeah I know it ***** - but easy to get
Sears - ditto
JcPenny - ditto
I established perfect credit and never carried a balance, always paid my bills in full. Eventually I bought an used car with credit.
